Excellence in Service

Mission statement:
The Vision Cafe exists to bring quality computing, Information, and Communication technology services to everyday Ugandans as inexpensively as possible.
We seek to be at the vanguard of an African skills transformation within the world of computers, as we help everyday Africans to develop the kind of computer skills that currently empower the business success of the subcontinent of India.
Vision Statement
A cafe that serves the Ugandan and African Community with well-motivated, friendly and respectful personnel, offering services for information and Computing and Communication Technology at a low cost, flexible and in a pleasing environment
Process/method:
In order to accomplish this we currently have 10 PC computers with full internet service available within our internet cafe. We offer private tutoring and group classes, as well as a broad array computer business services to the local, and national, Ugandan community.
The services we offer include: Computer Training, Secretarial, Internet, Faxing, Business Consulting & Computer Repair and Maintenance.
Progress:
Since opening on July 28, 2007, we have tutored over 50 Ugandans in computer skills, and we have connected many of them to the outside world via the Internet. The skills they’ve acquired from their training with VCU (Vision Café Uganda) has enabled many of them to get better paying jobs in office environments & private computer businesses. Others have improved their private businesses.
Getting jobs in Uganda has always demanded computer knowledge as an added advantage if not a leading necessity. Therefore, many students at the Vision Cafe Uganda have developed a competitive edge in the local job market.
The VCU has also been hired as consultants for small local IT business solutions as well.
Status:
Vision Force, from the USA, (< http://www.visionforce.com >) led by one Michael Skye in collaboration with the zaadz community (< http://www.zaadz.com >), were very kind to provide the startup capital and resources to enable our ‘Vision Café Uganda’ to become a reality. We can never express how truly grateful we are to them for their invaluable assistance. However, now it is up to us to carry the vision forward. We’ve been given a great opportunity and we are making the most out of it, as our efforts to date have enabled those that we’ve worked with to advance their careers in employment and education. We see this as just the beginning. We want to do even more.
Currently, we’ve achieved balance… as we are paying our expenses, including salaries, rent and other maintenance costs.
Next:
Our current focus is local… but we seek to develop the ‘VCU’ as a ‘franchise prototype’ (< http://www.e-myth.com >), so that we can replicate this successful business model throughout all of Africa.
